Adopted Trail: Devisadero Trail
Year Adopted: 2023
What motivated you to adopt a trail?
“At Red Willow Hospice, we adopted the Devisadero Trail because of its incredible beauty and the sense of peace it provides. As an organization that values both physical and emotional healing, we see this trail as a place where individuals and families can connect with nature. The Devisadero Trail offers breathtaking views and accessibility, making it a perfect spot for reflection and restoration, which aligns deeply with our core values of supporting healing journeys. Additionally, our commitment to environmental stewardship plays a large role in our decision to adopt this trail—caring for it ensures that future generations can enjoy.”
What has been the most rewarding part of the AAT program?
“The most rewarding part of being in the AAT program is knowing that our efforts are directly contributing to the preservation and sustainability of a trail that so many people rely on. Through our involvement in the program, we’ve been able to nurture a stronger sense of environmental responsibility among our staff, volunteers, and the broader community. It’s rewarding to see the difference we’re making—not just in keeping the trail beautiful but also in building a connection between outdoor spaces and emotional well-being.”
What does your group do? What is your mission?
“Our mission at Red Willow Hospice, centered within our diverse community of northern New Mexico, is to introduce whole-person hospice and palliative care of the future. We are dedicated to elevating healthcare by providing a progressive, holistic, and integrative approach that empowers individuals physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Our commitment to equitable social and economic access to quality healthcare, and our dedication to sustainable and environmentally friendly initiatives defines our path forward.”
What are your hopes and goals for the 2025 trails season?
“For the 2025 trails season, we hope to continue our stewardship of the Devisadero Trail by ensuring it remains a safe, clean space for all who visit. We aim to organize more community workdays, engaging local volunteers. Our goal is to expand our educational efforts on environmental preservation, helping others understand the importance of caring for our local trails. Additionally, we want to raise awareness about the deep connection between nature and well-being, encouraging more individuals to get outside, reflect, and find peace in places like Devisadero.”
Favorite Trail?
“Without a doubt, our favorite trail is the Devisadero Trail. The trail allows us to get away during the busy workday and provides quiet reflection and respite.”
Favorite Tool?
“One of our favorite tools for maintaining the Devisadero Trail is the classic rake. It might seem simple, but all it takes is that one ankle-roller. Plus, who doesn’t love to sift through rocks?”
How can folks get involved?
“There are several ways folks can get involved with or support Red Willow Hospice and our trail stewardship efforts. We welcome volunteers who are passionate about direct patient support, environmental conservation, and community engagement. You can join us for trail workdays, helping maintain the Devisadero Trail and other local spaces. Donations are also a crucial way to support our mission, whether it’s contributing to our general Red Willow Hospice Foundation Fund (TWCH 501c3), sponsoring specific programs, or helping us expand our environmental initiatives.
