Adopted Trail: South Boundary Trail
Year Adopted: 2021
What motivated you to adopt a trail?
“Our mountain bike organization adopted the South Boundary Trail because it is our pride and joy. It is our place of reverence. The trail is part of the ‘ejido’ and we are honored to care for it.”
What has been the most rewarding part of the AAT program?
“There is something intangible in the process of working the land with one’s bare hands. It promotes a connection to the land that can’t easily be broken. Caretaking the trail and keeping it functioning well is an honor for TMBA members. ”
What does your group do? What is your mission?
“The Taos Mountain Bike Association was formed to promote, enhance, and protect riding opportunities in Northern New Mexico. Our goal is to promote a love for riding and our trails so we can inspire more advocates to aid in protecting our ‘ejido’.”
What are your hopes and goals for the 2025 trails season?
“Our group hopes to open up the South Boundary Trail as soon as possible this spring. Our November storm brought a lot of trees down and we will have to remove dozens of trees to get the trail open.
We also hope to get Phase II of the BLM Horsethief Mesa trail project started in conjunction with the BLM and the Enchanted Circle Trails Association.”
Favorite Trail?
“South Boundary Trail, Nambe, Horsethief, Lost Lake, Devisadero to name a few.”
Favorite Tool?
“Katana saw and a Trailboss collapsible tool.”
How can folks get involved with your organization?
“Our group is open to all. We have frequent group rides, trail work days, pub nights, and campouts during the riding season. Taosmtb.org ”
